Yeah, so I’ve been spending a lot of time as an unemployed between-jobs Twitter socialite lately, and I have enough trouble finding time to watch my shows, let alone write about them. That is, when I’m not in bed with Arby’s and X-Files Season 3 on DVD for the 5th time. But that is neither here nor there. In the meantime, some of the best shows on the air are airing right now. Sons of Anarchy, Dexter and Glee are all back in the fray!
Sons of Anarchy, Kurt Sutter’s powerhouse Showtime drama about a motorcycle gang in Northern California, returned with its third season at the beginning of the month and just aired the fourth episode. I love the pacing of this series. The end of the second season left us with a monumental cliffhanger when Jax’s son Abel was kidnapped by a member of the IRA. I was a little worried that the kidnapping would be wrapped up too neatly, but boy was I wrong. By the conclusion of episode 4, things are more fucked up than they have ever been when the Teller-Morrow family discovers that Abel is in Ireland.
I’ve had it in my mind that although Sawyer is a great character, the episodes that look into his backstory tend to be lower tier. I may have to revise that, because I’m just 14 days into this thing and we’re already two for two with the guy.
The benefit of “Confidence Man” was that it left somewhere for the next Sawyer episode to go, and sure enough, we get all essential missing pieces of ROBERT PATRICK IS IN THE EPISODE? Sorry, I just get excited. We get all essential missing pieces of Sawyer’s backstory, from the traumatic opening scene to the reason for Sawyer being in Sydney. That plus a certain unexpected encounter, and it’s a rare flashback that deserves more attention than the on island stuff.
